Thoroughbred racing is a very enjoyable pastime. Although it’s regulated in the United States, the agencies that are charged with enforcing the regulations are highly fragmented. Licensing is typically handled by individual states, so what is okay in one state may not be okay in another. While there are two types of thoroughbred racing – flat racing and jump racing – the majority of the events that happen in the U.S. are on flat racetracks. One of the best things about thoroughbred racing is that it’s easy to get into. Just go to a local track and start watching races. Before too long, you’ll know who the most important players are and which races matter the most.
